FONTPOP WORKSHOP

The FONTPOP workshop delivers a concentrated dose of the very best font development workflows & processes. The session is ideal for graphic designers, calligraphers, letter artists and anyone else interested in creating a live font from a typographic sketch, and doing so with surgical efficiency. It’s also perfect for anyone wanting to amp up their vector handling, letter composition and typesetting skills. The information is presented in concise, understandable nuggets, with lots of visuals and hands-on exercises that help engrain each process.

TOPICS  Optimizing and importing hand-drawn art; prepping Illustrator vectors for font development; key optical factors of letter composition; vector construction standards; optimal work strategies; letterfit principles and practice; common production pitfalls and how to avoid them; font mastering and iterating.

SOFTWARE  We’ll use TypeTool 3 (the Light version of FontLab Studio 5) during the workshop. It’s also helpful, though not required, to have Adobe Illustrator CC with the FontSelf plug-in.

PLEASE BRING a Mac (or Windows) laptop with TypeTool 3 pre-installed (demo version at minimum; full version if possible). A limited number of extra laptops will be available on-site; please contact us if you might need one. :: If you have existing artwork you’d like to use for the workshop, we encourage you to bring it in.
